Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
