Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
