“That was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely unintentional, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”
Historical Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Previous examples include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in early 2024.
